Is it easy to use a wrap? TOP

As with learning anything new, learning how to wrap takes time, patience and practise.  The instructions and DVD included with your wrap are very useful.  Please read carefully the steps and tips, as well as the safety guidelines included in the instructions that come with your wrap.  Then practise, practise, practise!
  • I practise on a doll or teddy before practising on your baby.
  • Practise when you and baby are both happy, well rested and fed
  • I  practise in front of a mirror to make sure the wrap is not twisted, especially on your back for maximum comfort.
  • When I am new to and practising back carries, I ask someone to "spot" me.
  • Practise and work on one carry at a time, moving on to the next carry when you've mastered the first.
  • My all time favourite and "go to" carry is the forward wrap cross carry for older babies with head control, and the pocket wrap cross carry for newborns.   In both of these carries, the wrap is tied over both shoulders and around your waist for maximum comfort and weight distribution.  This is also the most supportive carry for baby as it involves three layers of fabric supporting baby
  • When wrapping your baby, you should tighten the wrap as much as possible.  I do this first by pulling the tails (ends) of the wrap, and then by pulling on the left and right rails (edges) of each tail (end).  I then spread the fabric across baby's bum, ensuring that there is some fabric between me and baby forming a seat for babyI spread the fabric across baby's backThen I ensure that baby is in a seated position, and that baby is sitting on baby's bum, so that knees are bent and are higher than baby's bum.
Before you know it, wrapping your baby will soon be second nature!

How do I wash my wrap? TOP

Directions on how to care for your wrap is included in the instructions located on the box, or in the manual.

Didymos and Vatanai wraps may shrink and then may lengthen again with use.  Storchenwiege wraps are known to be less prone to shrinkage.  To be safe, I personally wash all my wraps in cold water, gentle cycle, and line dryThis will minimize the amount of shrinkage in wrap length and width.  You can always hem a longer wrap, but you can't lengthen a short wrap!

How do I soften up my wrap? TOP

Your wrap may feel stiff when it is new, straight out of the box.
To soften it up, you can do the following:
  • Wash your wrapI wash my wraps in cold water on gentle cycle and line dry.
  • Iron your wrap.  I use lowest heat option.
  • Braid or tie knots your wrap.
  • Use your wrap as much as possible...as a blanket, shawl, pillow...and of course as a baby carrier!

My boys have happily spent the afternoon playing with my wrap (tug of war, dress up, train, throwing, catching).  Every little bit of use helps to soften up your wrap.

Before you know it, your wrap will be blankety soft.  You won't believe the difference!
